A Modern Brewery

Coopers Brewery at Regency Park is one of the most modern breweries in Australia. Officially opened in November 2001, it replaced Coopers' old Leabrook brewery, which after 120 years of continuous use had outgrown its site in a residential setting.

The decision to construct a new brewery, on the site of what was previously a Transport SA bus repair workshop, provided Coopers with the opportunity to expand and to design a facility to minimise impact on the environment. Over three years, the design and construction of the new brewery was supervised by Dr Tim Cooper, who was able to select state-of-the-art equipment in brewing, processing and packaging. The objective has been to reduce water and energy use, and to enhance recycling and the elimination of certain wastes. The brewery that operates today not only produces some of Australia's favourite beers, but it does so with the least possible consequence to the environment.

In areas such as energy recovery, power generation, water usage, recycling and operational efficiency, Coopers has adopted world's-best practices. At the same time, it has been able to maintain the essential character of the fine ales first brewed by the company's founder, Thomas Cooper, in 1862.

Coopers is a signatory to the Federal Government's Greenhouse Challenge and to the National Packaging Covenant, which seeks to promote consumer responsibilities.
